Seafood Restaurant in Devonport, TAS
Seafood, by the sea! The story of Devonport’s seafood restaurant, Pearl Oyster Bar & Cafe, located in the Bass Strait Maritime Centre.
Mainland ‘natives’ Claire & Paul moved to Devonport Tasmania in 2016, overseeing the opening & management of local favourite Bistro Camille. Inspired by the local produce, in particular the seafood forged by the chilly coastal waters, they opened a seafood restaurant in Devonport- Pearl Oyster Bar & Cafe- with an inspiration to focus on simple pleasures.
Pearl’s location, within the Bass Strait Maritime Centre, overlooks the ocean and the Mersey River, lending itself as the ideal location to enjoy local seafood in a relaxed, cafe setting.
Pearl features many of their favourite things. Aside from the fresh seafood obviously (especially the oysters!), Paul, Claire & their small team present a serious focus on great coffee, delicious homemade cafe treats, and a broad presentation of the local farm produce & artisan producers.
As you’d expect from any seafood restaurant with a view of the ocean, Pearl’s best experience is with a plate of oysters or a chilled seafood platter. Tourists to Devonport seeking a seafood experience should book a table on the deck, and make the most of the surrounds with a signature Pearl cocktail with fresh seafood and local Tassie wines.
In addition to seafood platters, Claire & Paul aim to give diners as broad a snapshot of Tassie produce as possible,
The unique heritage/museum location of this seafood restaurant & cafe comes with a few kitchen constraints, meaning most fresh seafood is left to sing for itself, as intended by the natural cold, pristine surrounds. You will however find an authentic scallop pie in Devonport!
For non-seafood eaters, the menu & cafe displays include plenty of lunchtime favourites, highlighted by a salad selection making the most of what’s grown/sourced locally.
